Nutrition 101
Keep in mind – there are many important aspects of fitness, such as strength, endurance, and flexibility. However, nutrition is the most important part of fitness because it provides the body with the energy and nutrients it needs to perform physical activity. Without good nutrition, the body cannot reach its full health and fitness potential.
There are two sides of nutrition that we need to pay attention to. First is the amount of food you eat and second is the type of food you eat. Both determine progress and the body’s full potential.
The amount of calories you take in each day will determine your weight.
Meaning, if you eat more calories than your body burns, you will gain weight. This is known as a calorie surplus or bulk. If you eat less calories than your body burns, you will lose weight. This is known as a calorie deficit or a cut. If you eat the same amount of calories as what your body burns, then you will maintain your weight. This is known as maintaining or maintenance.
On the other hand, macronutrients (protein, carbs, and fat) will determine body fat and muscle mass.
This is because each macro is needed in the right amount for optimal health and body composition.
Nutrition also includes micronutrients and minerals for gut, hormone, thyroid, and metabolic health.
In conclusion, there are many different parts that go into to “eating well”, which can feel overwhelming.. However, that is where I come in and make sure you are covering all your bases and getting the most out of your health and progress.
